Economic Outreach to SJCC Congregants In response to today’s difficult economy, the SJCC has formed an Economic Outreach Committee. Within our synagogue family we hope to be a resource for people who may be experiencing difficulty due to job loss or a downturn in their own business.
We have compiled an initital list of sources for Job Listings, Netowrking and Career Counseling and will soon be adding Social Services resources to assist those with financial need or other support services. We hope this can be an ongoing and collaborative effort. Contact the committee members (listed below) or you can reach us via economicoutreach@summitjcc.org with suggestions or other ways to help fellow congregants. JVS Career Event at the SJCC On April 28 the Summit Jewish Community Center hosted a free community seminar offered by Jewish Vocational Services. Three career professionals and Dr. Meryl Kann, Supervisor of Career Counseling & Placement presented strategies for career searches. Click here to read the program handouts. For job listings, networking and career counseling
The Summit Jewish Community Center is allied with Jewish Vocational Service of MetroWest. JVS offers career counseling, training and a database of jobs for congregants of participating synagogues, such as ours. Their main website is: www.jvsnj.org.
If you wish to access the JVS job database, contact Ellen Herman at rherman21@comcast.net for information and to obtain password access. If you have jobs to post that you would like publicize within the SJCC community, contact Bruce Mustacchi at BMustacchi@firstchoiceny.com .
As you conduct your job search, there are myriad online sites which can help you prepare your resume, research companies and industries, and search for jobs. The State of New York has compiled a list of websites, organized by industry and popularity. Click on Job Sites to find them.
Networking Networking is the key to finding jobs—especially in a tough economy. It’s not just talking to people you know, but it’s also about talking to people you don’t know and widening your circle of contacts.
If you wish to join the SJCC networking group on LinkedIn, contact Bruce Mustacchi at BMustacchi@firstchoiceny.com To find other networking groups outside the SJCC Click Here or to visit an online directory of NJ networking groups throughout New Jersey Click Here.
